Rock
Climbing |
 |
|
Duration:2 Hours
Exertion Level: Hard
Minimum Group : 4
Camp Site:
Munnar |
|
Rock climbing is a full body workout. After a brief lesson on the safety
measures and basic rope climbing principles, camper will be ready for the
climb. Rock climbing is a great sport to immerse yourself in, and possibly
just a great way to have fun. Climbing covers a range of recreational,
adventurous or sporting activities involving using one's hands and feet to
move up the surface of a steep object. Evolving from the pursuit of
mountaineering, rock climbing is the scaling of steep rocky surfaces,
usually using ropes and other climbing equipment for protection.
In Kerala you have an option of either free climbing or aid climbing. In
free climbing you will be provided ropes and gear are used strictly for
safety in the case of a fall but in aid climbing, where a passage up a
piece of rock is engineered by using equipment placed in the rock for
upward progress.
People have been climbing mountains recreationally since the early 1700s.
The use of a rope in mountain climbing started in the mid-1800s in Europe.
At this time the rule was the leader (one who climbs first on the rope) -
usually a professional guide - must not fall. This was a fairly
straightforward rule as the ropes and techniques of the day meant that a
lead fall would most likely be fatal. By the early 1900s climbers in
Saxony were using ropes in a somewhat more efficient manner - threading
them through occasional iron safety rings embedded in the rock - in their
attempts to protect dangerous leads.

Rappelling |
 |
|
Duration:2 Hours
Exertion Level: Medium
Minimum Group : 4
Camp Site: Munnar |
|
|
Rappelling is essentially sliding down the rope in a controlled manner.
You will be provide with all the basic equipments including helmets, Knee
pads, harness etc. To install a rappel for a single rope first attach the
rope to the face and then pull it through till the middle. For a double
rope put one of the ends through and tie the ends together by taking both
ends and making an overhand knot as if both ends where one; this is the
best way for tying the ends together because this knot won't get stuck so
easily behind all kinds of obstacles when you pull the rope down again.
Put some knots on the other ends of the rope to prevent you from falling
off if you slide down too far, you can use figure-8 knots for this. Now
you can take the free ends of the rope and throw them down, don't forget
to warn to climbers below you by yelling something like "rope", "seil", "corde"
or "touw"; hold the middle of the rope as throw it down.

Mountain Biking |
 |
|
Duration: 6 Hours
Exertion Level: Hard
Minimum Group: 10
Camp Site:
Munnar,
Thekkady |
|
Riding a bicycle / mountain bike has always been a pleasure for a person
who loves adventure and sports.
It requires
endurance, bike handling skills and self-reliance.
And, when it is done
amidst the lush surrounding of nature then, it becomes more delightful.
The beautiful and diverse topography of Kerala offers a wide scope for
Mountain Biking.
Another advantage for biking is that is good for our ecosystem too, as it
does not harm the environment.
Because
riders are often far from civilization, there is a strong ethic of
self-reliance in the sport. Riders must learn to repair their broken bikes
or flat tires to avoid being stranded miles from help. This reliance on
survival skills accounts for the group dynamics of the sport. |

You can do a basic level flight, which will train you to fly upto 100 Ft.
You will be taken to different terrains starting from a slope to a small
hill in the training part. Medium level flight training will take two days
and you will be able to fly down about 500Ft, once you are qualified for
the jump. A Pro level, or professional flier level, will need a three day
training and you will fly from about 1000Ft high. If you qualify in the
first two levels you can go directly to the Pro level fighting.
Riding the warm thermal currents of the air
on a Para glider is perhaps the closest man has ever come to sailing the
skies as free as a bird. Almost at will, you dip and wheel high over the
hills and valleys. Paragliding uses thermals as the driving force, and is
the closest one can get, to being a bird. In perfect weather conditions
you can stay aloft for over three hours and can soar to heights more than
3000 meters.
The basic techniques of Para gliding
include - launching, turning and landing. Once airborne, a great deal of
maneuverability can be achieved with the Para glider. The glider can be
steered by pulling suspension lines, which, cause gliding motion, thus
enabling the pilot fly at any course at will.
